A small group tour is the easiest way to see Armenia if you do not want to drive mountain roads, read Armenian signs or plan every transfer yourself. You share a vehicle, a driver and a guide with a handful of other travellers, you split the logistics, and you still have time to wander, eat and ask questions. This guide explains how our small group tours in Armenia work, who they suit, what to ask before you join, and how to apply.

What is a small group tour, and how is it different from a big coach tour?
A coach tour moves forty people on a fixed timetable. A small group tour moves a few people in a minivan or car, so stops are quicker, roads to remote monasteries are easier, and the guide can actually talk to everyone. You get the structure of a tour without feeling herded.
It is also different from a private tour. On a private tour the car and the guide are yours alone, which costs more and makes sense for families or special interests. In a small group you share the day with other travellers, which keeps it sociable and good value. If you are still deciding whether you want a tour at all, read our honest guided tour or DIY guide.
Which small group tours can you join from Yerevan?
All of our trips start and end in Yerevan, so you can stay in one hotel and add days as you like:
- Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery half-day tour: a pagan temple from the 1st century and a monastery carved into the rock, plus the Charents Arch view of Ararat.
- Lake Sevan and Dilijan day trip: Sevanavank above the lake, old Dilijan and Haghartsin monastery in the forest.
- Khor Virap, Areni wine and Noravank day tour: the classic Ararat view, a wine tasting in Areni and the red cliffs of Noravank.
- Yerevan city walking tour: the centre, courtyards and a coffee stop with a local guide.
- Tatev and Wings of Tatev 2-day tour: the long cable car, Tatev monastery and the cave village of Khndzoresk.
- Classic Armenia 7-day tour: our signature week for first-time visitors, with guesthouses, wine and a family dinner.

Who are small group tours for?
They work best for people who want company and simplicity:
- Solo travellers. You have someone to talk to at lunch and you do not pay for a whole car alone. Our solo female travel guide answers the questions women ask us most.
- Couples and friends who do not want to rent a car or hire a private driver.
- Older travellers who prefer short walks, comfortable stops and a guide who handles everything. See our Armenia for seniors guide.
- First-time visitors who want the key sights in a logical order before exploring on their own.
They suit you less if you want total freedom over timing, very long hikes or a specialist theme. In that case we build a private trip.
What is usually included, and what is not?
Each tour page lists the exact inclusions, but as a rule a group day trip includes transport in a comfortable vehicle, a driver and an English-speaking guide, and the planned stops. Meals, wine tastings and entrance tickets are listed separately on each tour page, so check before you book. On multi-day tours, accommodation in hotels or guesthouses is part of the trip.
Bring cash in Armenian dram for snacks, small entrance fees and souvenirs, and keep a light jacket in the bag: weather changes fast between Yerevan and the mountains. Our packing list covers the rest.
How do you join a group tour, step by step?
- Choose a tour on our tours page and note two or three possible dates.
- Write to us through the contact page with your dates, the number of travellers and where you are staying.
- We reply with what is available: whether other travellers are already booked on your date, the meeting point and time, and what is included.
- Confirm, and we send the final details before the trip.
If no group runs on your date, we tell you honestly and suggest another day, a nearby tour or a private version. Applying does not commit you to anything until you confirm.

When is the best time for a group tour in Armenia?
Late April to June and September to October are the most pleasant months, with green hills in spring and harvest colours in autumn. July and August are hot in Yerevan and the Ararat valley, but they are the best months for Lake Sevan and high-altitude stops. Winter tours run too, with shorter days and some roads closed by snow. Our month by month guide and weather guide give the details.
What should you ask before you book any group tour?
Ask any operator, us included, a few direct questions: how many people will be in the group, in which language the guide speaks, what is not included, how long you will spend in the vehicle, and what happens if the weather closes a road. Clear answers before the trip mean no surprises during it. You can also combine group days with free days in Yerevan; our 3 days in Yerevan itinerary shows how.
Want company on the road and no planning? Pick a trip on our tours page and send us your dates. We reply with available group days, the meeting point and everything included.
Frequently asked questions
Can I join a group tour in Armenia if I travel alone?
Yes. Our small group tours are designed for solo travellers too. Send us your dates and we tell you which days already have other travellers booked.
How many people are in a small group tour?
It is a small group in a minivan or car, not a coach tour. We confirm the exact number of travellers for your date when you write to us.
Can a group tour be turned into a private tour?
Yes. Every tour on our site can also run privately, for you, your family or your friends, on the date you choose.
How far in advance should I apply?
A few days is often enough for day trips, but for the Tatev 2-day tour and the 7-day tour in May, June, September and October we recommend writing several weeks ahead.
